17 October 2018 - EUA #9

We tried the later flight again this month and tried a couple of different things to settle Isla on the plane without food or milk. This still wasn’t a huge success, so we have gone back to the early flights for November and December so that Isla can still have some milk on the plane.

October’s EUA was more good news. No new tumours and everything looked stable. They did mention again that they are not sure if the large tumour in her right eye is completely inert (they have never been convinced of this). They said there is an area there that does still look active. It looks smooth and they can see blood vessels to it (confirmed with MRI). If it’s completely dead it looks like coral and is calcified and wont have a blood supply. However, it hasn’t grown any bigger, so they will just keep a close eye on it. Again, no laser or cryo was performed. We will continue having EUAs in Melbourne monthly at least until December. If the results continue to be good, our Melbourne trips might drop back to every 2 months.

Not the happiest little camper for a little while after the GA

Being daylight savings and spring, we were able to head out to the parklands (surrounding the hospital) and get some fresh air after the EUA this month, which was nice. Isla even had a little play on the playground.

Happy again in no time!

After waking to my alarm at 5am the following morning, I received a text from Virgin informing us that our flight had been cancelled due to ‘unscheduled maintenance’ and we needed to call them to find out our new flight time. Our taxi was booked to pick us up at 6.15am to get to the airport in time for our 8am flight home. After calling virgin we found out that we had been moved to the 12.35pm flight!! So to make the most of that situation and save sitting around the airport with a baby for 5hours, we cancelled our taxi booking and went for a walk to a cafe for breakfast and then walked into the city. From there we got the skybus to the airport in time for our new flight home.

I’m still skeptical that ‘unscheduled maintenance’ actually means ‘clearing of the airport for Prince Harry and Meghan’s arrival’...... Luckily Garreth didn’t have to get back to Adelaide for work that day, so we could just enjoy a morning in Melbourne. Had Isla still been having chemo and we needed to get back to Adelaide to start her treatment ASAP, it may have been a different story!!
