26 April 2019 - MRI #4

Isla had her 4th MRI at the Women and Children’s Hospital in Adelaide on Friday the 26th of April. This was originally booked for the 23rd of April, but had to be postponed for a couple of days as Isla was still getting over a bout of hand foot and mouth disease which she had contracted from childcare. The MRI ran reasonably smoothly and we were able to take her home soon after she woke up in recovery.

I met with Isla’s oncologist the following Monday to discuss the results of the MRI. The MRI confirmed that the tumour is still contained within the eye and is a similar size to what was measured at the last MRI in October (about 1 x 0.5 x 0.4cm – was about 1.5 x 1.4 x 1cm at diagnosis) and the brain is still clear. While the tumour is still a reasonable size, the majority of that mass is calcified (dead) tumour and only a thin layer still looks fleshy and active in the photos from Isla’s EUAs.
