6 July 2018 - MRI #2

Early July Isla had another MRI (under general anaesthetic) to check the progress of her tumours and confirm there was still no spread to the brain (pineal gland). I received a call from radiology on Thursday morning saying our oncologist wanted Isla to have an MRI in the next week or so, and the only spot they had free was the next morning. They asked if we could get there by 7am the following day. Garreth has told his work that he always wants to be there whenever Isla has a GA, and luckily they are very understanding and allowed Garreth to have the Friday off at the very last minute.

So, another early morning and fasting for Isla, but luckily we were one of the first ones to go in. Isla did really well again and the nurses in recovery mentioned it was the first time they had a baby wake up from a general anaesthetic and smile at them! After quite a bit of confusion and back and forth regarding Isla’s central line, and the nurses thinking she had an infusaport, we managed to get out of there.

Waiting to go in for MRI

The report from the MRI was good. Everything in her eyes was as we expected and her brain is still all clear. I actually got a copy of the MRI report this time (and have since got a copy of the original MRI report), which mentions the staging of Isla’s cancer, which we never actually knew before. Her right eye is stage 2B and her left eye is stage 1A, however after looking at the definitions, and with what we now know about her right eye now, I think it would actually be at least a 2C.
